Ightham Mote is a beautiful medieval moated manor house situated near Sevenoaks, Kent. Pronounced, 'item moat', it is an excellent example of how a small manor house would have looked in the medieval period. It dates to around 1320 and was extended and restored over the centuries which followed. The National Trust took possession of the house in 1985, when the manor was in rather a dilapidated state. From 1989 to 2004 The National Trust embarked on a very ambitious conservation project where the construction methods used in building the house were meticulously recorded. This was the subject of a Channel 4 'Time Team Special : The Ten Million Pound House' in 2004. Ightham Mote is, indeed, a stunning example of its kind, now saved for the nation to enjoy!
