MEDIEVAL AD 1066-1547

 

The Medieval period started with the Norman invasion in AD1066 and ended with the dissolution of the monasteries in AD1540. This timespan includes:

 

1. The Norman period - marks the Norman conquest of Britain by William, Duke of Normandy in AD1066, and continues until AD1154.

 

2. The Tudor Period - between AD1485 and 1603 when Britain was ruled by the Tudor monarchs.

 

POST MEDIEVAL AD 1540-1901

 

The Post medieval begins with the dissolution of the monasteries and ends with the death of Queen Victoria. This timespan includes:

 

1. The Elizabethan period - AD1558-1603 when England was ruled by Elizabeth I.

 

2. The Jacobean period - AD1603-1625 when England was ruled by James I of England (VI of Scotland).

 

3. The Victorian period - AD1837-1901 when Great Britain was ruled by Queen Victoria.

 

4. The Edwardian period - AD1901-1910 when Great Britain was ruled by King Edward VII.

 

This period also saw the Industrial Revolution which saw new manufacturing processes in the period from about 1760 to sometime between 1820 and 1840.
